It’s not every day we get the chance to save lives with a phone app, so we grabbed this opportunity and ran hard.
Damn those risk taking kids
Queensland Health asked us to develop an interactive mobile phone app. The idea was to target those 12–24 year olds who think tanning is sexy, and change their sun protection behaviour. We were involved right from the start, and together with the Queensland Government, we developed the iPhone app from early stage concepts, strategy and design to technical development and target-market testing.
Vanity is the key
Our target demographic still thinks tanning is a way to make themselves look healthier and more attractive, so we decided to challenge that mindset by showing what they will look like when the sun has had a chance to do its real damage. We did this by incorporating photo augmentation tools to highlight the ageing effects the sun has on the skin.
Nailed it
We took the approach of user first–technology second, and this led to a highly effective user experience. Our client loved the intuitiveness of the app, the simplicity of the clean design, and the journey it took the users on. We love that we got to use technology in a meaningful way.
