The Background
Stock photography had become a problem. Not because it was hard to find, but because it had become so bland, so overused and so obviously generic that it was doing more harm than good. The same smiling handshake. The same laptop-on-a-desk. The same “diverse team in a meeting room” shot that every agency in the country was using on every client’s website.
Clients noticed. Audiences noticed. And the images were getting harder to work with, not easier. Finding something that actually felt like it belonged to a specific brand, in a specific context, took longer than it should have. More often than not, the result was a compromise.
Professional photo shoots solved the quality problem but not the economics. Most clients didn’t have the appetite or the budget for regular shoots, and even when they did, a single shoot produced a fixed set of images that ran out fast when you needed creative across websites, social, advertising and email.
What we wanted was the ability to generate original imagery around specific concepts, specific designs, specific brand directions. Not generic AI output. Purposeful creative work, guided by the same thinking that goes into any other design decision, just produced faster and at a scale that stock and shoots couldn’t match.
On top of that, advertising platforms like Meta were increasingly rewarding creative diversity. More varied visual concepts meant better campaign performance.
Working alongside Lifers, we built MediaMate to solve that problem.

The Challenge
The problem wasn’t generating images. Plenty of tools could do that. The problem was generating the right images, on-brand, at volume, without the process becoming a mess.
A marketing team producing creative for a paid advertising campaign might need social proof graphics, product shots in different contexts, lifestyle imagery, video clips for Stories and Reels, and multiple variations of each to test. Across a month of active management, that’s dozens of assets. Across multiple clients, it’s hundreds.
Doing that across three different AI tools, a stock library, a designer’s calendar and a shared drive full of files named “final_v3_ACTUALLY_FINAL” isn’t a creative process. It’s administrative overhead disguised as production.
We needed one workspace where a team could generate, organise, iterate and export everything a campaign required without leaving the tool.
Our Strategy
The best creative tools don’t replace taste. They remove the friction between having an idea and seeing it.
MediaMate was built as a single studio environment for image and video generation. Rather than bolting together multiple AI services, it provides one interface where teams can go from a text prompt to finished, organised, export-ready assets.
Style presets and prompt templates allow teams to lock in a visual direction and reproduce it consistently across an entire campaign. Reference images guide the AI toward a specific look rather than producing generic output. Every asset carries its full generation history, so any result can be iterated or reproduced in one click rather than trying to remember what settings produced the good one.
The organisational layer was just as important as the generation layer. Projects, collections and a searchable library with AI-powered auto-naming mean assets stay findable as volume grows. Teams working across multiple clients or campaigns can keep everything separated and structured without extra effort.
Video generation was included from the start because social advertising increasingly demands motion. Turning a still concept into a short video clip without involving a production workflow removes one of the biggest bottlenecks in social content production.
MediaMate runs on a bring-your-own-key model with Replicate and Google Drive storage, giving teams full control over their costs and their data. That transparency was deliberate. Too many creative tools hide usage costs behind opaque subscription pricing. We wanted teams to see exactly what they were spending and why.

The Results
MediaMate has become part of Mettro’s creative production workflow, particularly for paid advertising clients where creative diversity directly affects campaign performance. Assets that would have taken days to source, brief and produce can now be generated, reviewed and exported in minutes.
More importantly, it solved the consistency problem. Style presets mean a campaign’s visual language stays coherent across dozens of assets, even when they’re produced across multiple sessions by different team members. The AI auto-naming alone eliminated hours of manual file management that nobody missed.
As part of the wider MateSuite ecosystem alongside SquishMate, Hitlist, ReportMate and LaunchMate, MediaMate sits within a connected set of tools built around the way Mettro actually works. Each tool solves a specific production problem. Together, they form a workflow that moves faster without cutting corners on quality.
